Meet one of our Grades 11-12 teachers, Dr. Robert Black!
Dr. Black was born in North Carolina, raised in Alabama, and spent his formative teenage years in the Philipppines.
He has taught students from kindergarten to master's degree coursework in the Philippines, South Korea, Mongolia, South Carolina, and Hawaii. He has given more than 40 academic lectures to other educators at conferences around the world, including his first in Vladivostok Russia. Wow! This is his 15th year as a full time educator and his 10th year at Hanalani Schools.
He enjoys playing acoustic guitar, reading, writing poetry, and playing tabletop games with his discord-based playgroup of 50 fellow Hawaii nerds.
A fun fact about him is he speaks Ilocano, Tagalog, and Korean and is fully fluent in Ilocano. Nagmayat!
Dr. Black shares his love of teaching, “I love the process of teaching and learning. My role is to frame the question and see students develop the skills and foundation to be lifelong learners beyond my classroom.”
Mahalo, Dr. Black! We are blessed to have you!
Our “GETTING TO KNOW YOU” series, will introduce our teachers so you can get to know them a little better. Stay tuned for more introductions!
