Nestled on six beautiful acres in Mililani, Hanalani Schools has nurtured, challenged, and prepared students for success in both college and life for over 70 years. Hanalani seeks to enrich the whole child—mentally, physically, and spiritually—and develop successful leaders by offering high-quality programs focused on three foundational pillars: core knowledge, critical skills, and Christian character. We believe that these three pillars best equip students to become successful leaders in their future careers, communities, and families.

Here at Hanalani, we describe our approach to teaching core knowledge as Academics Plus. Through this approach, our students develop their academic foundation by focusing on STEAM (STEM + Arts). However, we also believe that in order to effectively meet the challenges that they will face post-graduation, students need more than just academics—they need to engage in learning that takes place beyond the classroom. Our students regularly enjoy off-campus learning in places and events around the island, as well as on trips abroad. Additionally, co-curricular opportunities, especially through various teams—athletics, arts, and activities—provide our students with rich life and leadership lesson opportunities. The athletic field/court, drama production stage, and student government headquarters all serve as essential classrooms for developing leadership skills.

Equally foundational as core knowledge to the development of successful leaders are what we define as critical skills—creativity & adaptability, critical & analytical thinking, citizenship, collaborative leadership, effective communication (written, oral, digital, and arts), digital citizenship, and cultural competence. These skills are taught to our students both in the traditional classroom setting and through co-curricular activities.

The last foundational pillar, Christian character, addresses the hearts and character development of our students. They are taught to love God and others, which translates to dealing with others through compassion, kindness, empathy, integrity, honesty, and other relational virtues critical to successful leadership.

• We believe in the eternally existing, triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
• We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, and in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, where He now acts as Mediator and Advocate.
• We believe that Heaven is the place of eternal blessedness for the saved and that Hell is the place of eternal, conscious punishment for the lost.
• We believe in the personal, imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ for His own, in His later return in power and glory with His own to reign in righteousness over the earth, and in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost–they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
• We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit whose presence in all believers enables them to live Godly lives.
• We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ and in the necessity of all His followers maintaining good works as evidence of faith.
• We believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for the salvation of lost and sinful men and that all who receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again and become the children of God.

Hanalani Schools uses the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible as its organizational standard translation.

Hanalani School’s Strategic Plan is exciting, ambitious, demanding, and faith-building. Over the past 72 years, we have witnessed God's provision. We have experienced a highly committed staff, student body, parents, families, and friends.

The board topics of our Strategic Plan include:

1. Program: Continue to refine our Academics PLUS programs through professional development, program expansion, and honing our data-informed processes.

 

2. Personnel: Promote staff longevity and professional development to keep our staff and faculty engaged with current research and best practices to ensure a relevant and rigorous program and operations.

 

3. Enrollment: Manage growth to ensure a high-quality program.

 

4. Facilities: Update our Master Plan in preparation for our next capital project and modernize the campus.

 

5. Development: Conduct a successful annual fund and a capital campaign to fund our next building project.

 

6. Finances: Update our Strategic Financial Plan and leverage school resources to accomplish the SP goals.

 

7. Board of Trustees: Expand membership and succession planning.
