Monday Update - Tropical Storm Felicia
Dear Parents, Welcome back!! What an exciting opening day!! Opening day went very smoothly, and we thank you for your part in making it happen. It is so good to see the smiling faces and the excitement in the students faces. Speaking about excitement--as you know, we are in the direct path of tropical storm Felicia. We are praying that it continues to weaken, but we are also planning for its arrival. The safety and well-being of the students are our highest priority. From the schools standpoint, please watch the weather reports as that will give you a sense of what we are considering. If the central complex public schools shut down, we will follow their lead. In the situation of big storms, in the interest of health and safety, we take into consideration: severe flooding, whether electricity and water are available, the need to keep roads clear for civil defense workers, and the help to civil defense to have only essential people on the roads. We will notify you via email, school website, TV stations (main local stations), and KSSK radio station. In the case that the students are on campus and the storm takes a turn for the worse, please refer to pages 73-74 of the Parent & Student Handbook for our procedures. For the Elementary Parent Orientation scheduled for tomorrow night--we will continue with our plans to gather tomorrow night. If the weather is too severe, we will notify you via email and the website. Aloha, Mark Sugimoto (*Hurricane image provided by Wiki Commons)
