HPD Officers Talk With Students

Mililani, Hawaii The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) visited the younger students at Hanalani Schools today. The visit was, so that the children know that the policemen are out there to help us and to make them more aware of the community, said Early Childhood Director Sue Ann Moore who coordinated the demonstration. The presentation centered on explaining what police officers do and how they use the equipment they have. Students learned about the various tools on an officers belt, from the firearm to the handcuffs. Three police cars, two motorcycles, and even the HPD helicopter accompanied the officers in their presentation to the students, as they demonstrated the lights and sirens, explaining how they use the vehicles in their job. Officers also allowed the students to both sit on the motorcycles and get in the back seat of the police cars, experiencing the units for themselves. They taught the kids to fly, said teacher Jon Eoute referring to the presentation about the HPD helicopter, with all the levers and stuff, and how hard it is to do it all at once It was quite comprehensive. Mahalo to Hanalani parent, Officer Sugai for helping to make this educational demonstration possible. Photos by Jon Eoute.
